After much speculation and teasing, Intel today officially announced its new eighth-generation U-series and Y-series processors. The former was originally code-named Whiskey Lake, while the latter was referred to as Amber Lake. Both are optimized for use is “thin, light” laptops, according to the chipmaker. Across the board, Intel touts that its new processors focus on providing “ultimately mobile performance and long battery life” for thine and light laptops, as well as 2-in-1s....

Facebook-owned Instagram will allow users to download their data locally, just in case you want to delete your account, or perhaps save a copy to your photo library. An Instagram spokesperson confirmed the news to TechCrunch: Adding such a feature will allow users to more easily leave the platform and makes it easier for users to import it to their local library or import it into another social media platform. Likewise, this could simply be a move on Instagram’s part to comply with Europe’s GDPR rules as long as the option ships before May 25....

Users of Intuit’s Mint Personal Finance app for iPhone will be seeing a workflow speed boost with the latest version. Finance data like recent transactions and used accounts, fee and high spending alerts, and budget information is now available for tracking faster in an added Updates section. With iOS 14, Apple has finally added an emoji search field to the stock keyboard. Although the UI is still a bit wacky in the initial iOS 14 developer beta, the functionality does work. Now, when you tap on the emoji button in the bottom left of the keyboard, there is a new search field above the row of emoji. You can then type in a keyword like ‘happy’ and see a strip of emojis that match the corresponding search text....

iPhone 12 and the M1 iPad Pro are the first Apple devices to support a 5G connection. With iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, the gadgets will be able to choose 5G over Wi-Fi depending on the connection. As 5G is still slowly rolling out through the US, Apple is already preparing the field for the iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 launch. Intel has confirmed weeks of rumor, filing a $1.4 billion takeover offer for iPhone component supplier, Infineon’s Wireless Solutions business. After being unceremoniously removed in iOS 13, Apple has restored the magnifying glass (loupe) when interacting with text on iOS 15. Now, when a user starts to move the text cursor, a bubble appears above their finger magnifying what is shown below.
