Instagram announced today that it is updating its iOS and Android apps with a new feature dubbed ‘Photos of You’ making it easier to view and be notified of photos you care about most. The feature will make it easier for users uploading images to add mentions of people or things and also adds a new “Photos of You” section on your profile where tagged photos will gather: The feature will be in a sort of beta mode until May 16th at which time the Photos of You section will become visible on users’ public profiles....

Apple has just dropped the iOS 10 GM seed for developers, including all the new features and changes that will be available to the public next week on September 13 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The update weighs in at 1.7 GB. Apple calls it the biggest release of iOS ever. Changes spotted in the GM: Health app now has working videos for each of the four categories; Activity, Mindfulness, Nutrition and Sleep....

Update: macOS Mojave 10.14.6, iOS 12.4, watchOS 5.3, tvOS 12.4, Apple TV software update 7.3.1 for Apple TV 3, and HomePod 12.4 are now available. We expect Apple will release iOS 12.4 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch later today. The update has been in developer and public beta since mid-May. This software release could be the first version of iOS that supports the Apple Card release, Apple’s new credit card with special features in the Wallet app on iOS, although it’s possible Apple Card could appear in a later update....

New in iOS 8 you have the ability to record time-lapse photography right from the Camera app. Time-lapse photography is a type of photography that happens when the frame rate is lower than what is used to view the sequence. When the photo is played at normal speed, time looks to be faster. However, not everything would make a great time-lapse subject. Good time-lapse subjects include cloudscapes, celestial motion, plants growing, cars driving on a busy intersection and of crowds....

Intel has had a strong partnership with Apple since 2005, and although Apple now has Mac computers with its own chips, there are still some Macs being shipped with Intel processors. However, as the M1 chip has been praised for its performance and efficiency, Intel is now mocking Apple in a new campaign that highlights things users can’t do on a M1 Mac. The new campaign has been running on Twitter and other websites claiming that there are some tasks that only Windows PCs can do....

Filming on Marvel, ABC, and IMAX’s Inhumans mini-series may already be underway, but it appears they’ve added a new cast member in Chad James Buchanan. The first-of-a-kind series will see the first two episodes debut for a limited time in IMAX on September 1st before all eight episodes air on a weekly basis on ABC, and the cast and crew have been working on the project in Hawaii for the past few weeks....

One of Snapchat’s most popular features is its private chat platform, which is coincidentally the sole feature that Instagram has struggled to copy. Instagram, however, has started to roll out new capabilities to its Direct platform that it hopes will give it an advantage over Snapchat… As reported by TechCrunch, Instagram has expanded the options available to users when they send a photo or video from the Instagram Direct camera. Now, users can choose to allow recipients to view the message once, replay it temporarily, or see a permanent thumbnail in the chat log....

After adding support for following hashtags earlier this month, Instagram is now rolling out a new “Recommended for You” feature, TechCrunch reports. This feature will see the social network insert posts it thinks you may like directly into your feed… “Recommended for You” has been rolling out to select Instagram users over recent days, but the company has officially acknowledged the feature in a new Help document today. Instagram explains that what appears in this section is based on posts liked by the other accounts you follow....

The Drug Enforcement Administration has warned in a recent internal document that iMessage’s secure end-to-end encryption is preventing law enforcement from eavesdropping on suspects in criminal investigations. CNET got its hands on the document that warned “it’s ‘impossible to intercept iMessages between two Apple devices’—even with a court order approved by a federal judge”: Christopher Soghoian, a senior policy analyst at the American Civil Liberties Union, said yesterday that “Apple’s service is not designed to be government-proof....

One more important thing to be noted is Hash Functions and Cryptography are altogether totally different from each other. Encryption is a two-way function i.e. encrypted data needs to be decrypted using a private key, thus they are reversible. Hashing or hash functions are one-way functions (i.e., hashes cannot be reversed). Thus, hashing is faster than cryptography. The most common use of hashing is password checking. When the user enters the password, the hash of the password is generated and compared with the hash in the database....

iOS has a lot of small changes in addition to the headline features like Dark Mode. This includes updates to Control Center. In addition to toggling WiFi and Bluetooth, you can now switch networks and connect to new devices from within the Control Center platter. Control Center has always offered toggles to connect/disconnect from WiFi and Bluetooth. One new feature of the Apple TV update spotted by MacMagazine.com.br (via MacRumors) is the ability to reorganize icons on the main UI. Much like the wiggling animation when reordering icons on iOS devices, holding the Select button will allow you to move icons while others reorder automatically the same as on iPhone and iPad....

Last week, Apple seeded the first beta of the upcoming iOS 9.2 release to developers, and we’ve discovered that the new update will add support for Arabic in Siri. Apple previously built in the fundamental elements of understanding Arabic to iOS by adding Arabic support to the Keyboard Dictation and QuickType features in iOS 8 last year. Apple adding Arabic support to Siri follows up on Apple expanding its retail presence to the United Arab Emirates by opening up a pair of flagship stores in Abu Dhabi and Dubai....

Following Apple’s announcement of record-breaking app sales in the holiday shopping season, Asymco’s Horace Dediu did some number-crunching, and came up with some surprising facts. Not least among them is the clear pointer that iOS app sales will be worth more than the entire worldwide movie industry at some point this year … Dediu noted back in 2015 that App Store billings overtook gross US box office takings, and observed then that it was only a matter of time before the same would be true globally....

Despite dramatic improvements to Apple Watch speed, some high profile apps have been actively pulled from watchOS over the last several months. Instagram is the latest major app to disappear from Apple Watch as part of today’s iPhone app update… There’s no mention of the Apple Watch app being pulled in the release notes which only mentions the typical bug fixes and improvements, but updating to version 39.0 on iPhone removes Instagram for Apple Watch when paired....

In fact, I tend to use it more than regular navigation. If I need to call someone, rather than look though my contacts or fight with Siri, I just pull up a search. Same goes with apps. Rather than tap the folder and app or skim through my folders if I don’t remember exactly where it is, I just open up Spotlight and type in the name of the app I’m looking for....
