In addition to adding the new News app, iOS 9 beta 3 also made a much-needed enhancement to the folder functionality on the iPad. Less than a month after Apple introduced its free “iBooks Author” e-book publishing platform, interactive iPad textbook startup Inkling introduced its own publishing platform called “Habitat.” Founder and CEO Matt MacInnis, who also happens to be a former senior manager of international education markets and Asia education marketing at Apple, made the announcement today in New York at the “Tools of Change for Publishing” conference. Instagram has announced two changes to improve the comment experience for users on the social network. Public accounts are now able to select which groups of users are able to comment on their posts, and all users now have the ability to block other users from leaving comments. Instagram introduced a new gallery feature for posting multiple photos and videos in a carousel album format back in February, but the feature has had a classic Instagram limitation since it launched. Photos and videos shared in groups have had to be cropped into squares to fit the carousel, but Instagram is lifting that requirement starting today. Instagram shared on Twitter that it is rolling out the ability to post both photos and videos in either portrait or landscape formats without cropping shots and clips into squares....

Instagram has always resisted the idea of a “Regram” button, but the company appears to be reversing its course, at least in the case of Stories. According to TechCrunch, Instagram is testing a feature that would allow users to share another user’s post directly to their own Instagram Story… The feature is currently being tested with a small percentage of users and Instagram has confirmed that it is testing the feature....

In fact, I’ve had a RememberTheMilk Pro account for about a year now. Originally, the reason I upgraded from RTM Free to RTM Pro was that the latter gave you access to the iPhone app (the RTM iPhone app is now available for RTM free accounts). But even then, I found the iPhone app somewhat heavy as a collection tool. There were just too many button presses, say, if I wanted to quickly jot down a book name or grocery list item in the middle of conversation without spending too much time fiddling with my phone....

In what feels like an annual affair, somebody has once again found a glitch with the iOS Home Screen. The bug allows users to place folders inside folders on the iOS 7 Springboard, which is normally not possible. With a certain configuration of steps, the bug can also make apps disappear from the Home Screen entirely. For instance, you could hide some of the stock Apple apps (like Compass or Voice Memos) that normally can’t be removed....

iOS 11 beta 6 (released earlier this week) includes a new feature to quickly disable Touch ID from the lock screen. Tapping the lock button five times to access the SOS screen or opening a Medical ID will cause the iPhone or iPad to temporarily reject all Touch ID attempts, requiring a passcode to unlock. We have confirmed with sources that this behavior is intentional rather than a bug, as well as some explanation as to why it was added....
