New in iOS 8 you are able to create a Medical ID in the Health App. Even though the rest of the Health app is down, the Medical ID is fully functioning. The Medical ID is important because in case of an emergency, medical responders can look at your phone and know any allergies or medical conditions you have and know who to contact for you without unlocking your phone. One of the privacy features of iOS is that apps are required to ask permission if they want to access things like your photos, camera and location. But a Google engineer has created a demo app to show how a rogue app could abuse permissions to surreptitiously photograph you as you use the app – or even livestream video from your front or rear cameras. The issue, says Felix Krause, is that users are asked to grant blanket permission....

Xiaomi is currently rolling the latest MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM 7.12.28. It is seeding over almost all Xiaomi devices. It is based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The security patch level remains on that of November 2017. It keeps the firmware build version of the devices on N2G47H. The latest Beta OS brings the full-screen gestures to move between pages. Apart from that, it also repairs some bugs in the Dual Apps, App Vault and in the Settings....

It turns out that Apple has developed the standard and was instrumental in bringing it on board over at Intel. Instrumental in this case means Steve Jobs aguing with Intel chief Paul Paul Otellini about getting the product into new motherboards. 10Gbs is fast. It is 10 times faster than Gigabit Ethernet (and is duplex meaning both tx and rx are 10Gb as the same time). That is also faster than the DisplayPort connector that connects Apple’s displays....

The successor to Thunderbolt 3, aptly named Thunderbolt 4, will arrive alongside new Tiger Lake mobile processors, said Intel during its CES 2020 keynote. The CPU-integrated Thunderbolt 4 will make its debut in a yet-to-be-named thin and light hardware release later this year. For Mac users, this is noteworthy simply for the fact that Thunderbolt 3 has such a prolific presence on all modern Macs. In fact, every Mac that Apple sells, from the cheapest Mac mini to the highest-end Mac Pro, features at least two Thunderbolt 3 ports....

Update: Apple has released a statement saying that the following iOS 10 update issues should now be resolved: iOS 10 has just dropped but it seems like it is not smooth sailing for everyone. We have received many reports that users are finding their iPhone and iPad devices ‘bricked’ after attempting the over-the-air iOS 10 update. To restore, affected users must then plug their devices into iTunes on Mac or PC to restore the device....

After Twitter announced its new Super Follow feature, Instagram is taking the same path and is working on an “Exclusive Stories” function with a similar purpose. Over the past few weeks, reverse engineer and leaker Alessandro Paluzzi was able to show firsthand how the Exclusive Stories feature will work. Similar to Close Friends but in purple instead of green, this function will probably be only available for creators. To TechCrunch, Instagram confirmed it’s working on the feature, although the company declined to share any specific details about its plans....

Well, when the automatic won’t work, it’s time to switch to the manual method, but don’t worry you won’t have to get your fingers too greasy (hopefully.) Firefox uses XPI files to install the plugin packages available to Firefox. So technically this process should work not just for Adobe Flash, but for any Firefox plugin. After a bit of digging, I was able to scrape the address of the XPI file for Flash from the Adobe site....

Intel has been throwing a lot of shade at Apple since the company started the shift to its Apple Silicon chips with the first M1 Macs last fall. The most recent series of its “Go PC” ads even feature former “I’m a Mac” star Justin Long mocking the new M1 Macs. In an ironic move, Intel is now using the MacBook Pro in a new ad to promote “The world’s best processor on a thin and light laptop” that’s not found in any of Apple’s notebooks....

NetBlocks, an organization tracking internet access worldwide, said the internet was restored in Yemen after a four-day nationwide outage. At about 1am local time on Friday, Yemen suffered a total internet blackout due to airstrikes on a telecommunications hub in the port city of Al Hodeida. Some online shared photos of a telecommunications building damaged by bombs. The Associated Press eventually confirmed that the attack on the telecommunications hub in Al Hodeida was part of a larger aerial assault on Yemen’s Houthi rebels by a Saudi-led coalition....

The latest iOS 9 figures posted to Apple’s developer site show that adoption is currently stalled at 77%, the same number reported at the last update earlier this month, but still ahead of the iOS 8 curve. iOS 8 took until 18th March to hit that same 77%. Most of the hold-outs are running iOS 8, at 17% of the total while only 6% are running an earlier version. This contrasts strongly with Android, where a miniscule 1....
