According to a report out of VentureBeat, Intel has built a team of more than 1,000 people to build chips for the next-generation iPhone. Specifically, Intel hopes to supply its 7360 LTE modem chip to Apple for the device, and if all goes well, even take part in the manufacturing. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus both feature Qualcomm’s 9X45 LTE chip. Intel hopes to next year provide its modem for at least some of the iPhones Apple produces in 2016....

Apple continued its strong focus on privacy with the announcement of iOS 13 this week. The update includes several new privacy features, including a more detailed view of how apps have been using your location in the background. As you can see in the screenshots above, iOS 13 presents popup notifications when an app is using your location in the background. New icons discovered in the latest build of iOS 11.2.5 have revealed some of the functionality that may arrive with the release of the elusive HomePod in upcoming weeks. According to a new report out of app analytics company App Annie, Apple’s trend of bringing in more revenue via its App Store than Google does via the Play Store continued in 2015. Google, however, continued to see far more app downloads than Apple… The report claims that Google saw twice as many apps downloaded from the Play Store as Apple saw downloaded from the App Store. This, however, is reversed when it comes to earnings from each respective app store....

Instagram has today rolled out a new feature to let users see when their friends are on the platform and available to chat. Detailed in a blog post, Instagram shared that users will now see a green dot in the bottom right portion of profile photos to indicate a user’s status. Managing partner at Short Hills Capital, Steve Weiss, shared in an interview on CNBC that despite being a critic of Apple and Tim Cook in the past, he’s repurchased AAPL and that it’s “one of the bigger positions” for the investment firm. Two of the reasons Weiss is bullish on Apple is he likes that Tim Cook has the ear of President Trump and the company’s more aggressive approach. As spotted by Khaos Tian on Twitter, there’s an interesting new setting in the Workout app for Apple Watch. Named “Time to Walk”, the setting describes a feature where walking workouts are downloaded to the watch when connected to power and the iPhone is nearby. This feature doesn’t yet appear to be functional so we can’t try it for ourselves just yet; it likely depends on server-side changes. The “Time to Walk” branding aligns the feature with the classic “Time to Stand” reminders, which encourage users to stand up and walk around a little once an hour....
