O2 in conjunction with BTOpenzone and The Cloud are creating a Wifi “wireless mesh network” across London and other UK metropolitan areas. The coverage is supposed to rival the coverage of cell phone towers. iPhone users should be able to use this network seamlessly. Also, O2 customers will be able to log into this mesh with their laptops or desktops. The company said QuickBooks Checking – which combines a variety of services that fintechs currently provide small businesses into one core offering – has signed up more than 150,000 small businesses since it was unveiled. Since January, one-third of all the customers to adopt the platform have been small businesses with less than one year of operations, and the customer base has grown four times as large. “Thousands of small businesses are turning to QuickBooks Checking to manage their cash flow, and we’re laser-focused on continuing to refine and design an even more robust banking experience with their specific needs in mind,” said Rania Succar, senior vice president of QuickBooks Money Offerings....

Apple has built support for AT&T’s NumberSync technology into iOS 9.2 beta 2, which was released to developers earlier today. Currently Apple’s Continuity feature allows users to use their Mac, iPad, or iPod touch to make phone calls as long as the computer (or other iOS device) is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as their iPhone. The software upgrade will allow users to enable Wi-Fi calling on all of those devices and make and receive calls without the need to be on the same network, or even in the same area....

Apple has once again updated its App Store data chart with the latest statistics on iOS 9 adoption. iOS 9 came out of the gate with a ridiculously-high >50% adoption rate just a few days after it launched. Intel has just announced the world’s first global 5G modem to help test initial 5G spectrum deployments across the world. The global 5G modem announced by Intel today reportedly achieves speeds “exceeding 5 Gbps” while maintaining ultra-low latency connections.
