Intel is looking to use its recently unveiled Medfield chips in the iPhone, according to The Telegraph. In the report, Dave Whalen, vice president of Intel’s architecture group, told The Telegraph that Intel has talked to Apple and other manufacturers about using the new Medfield chips in iOS devices. Specifically, Whalen said as iOS continues to grow, “We talk to everybody.” Intel is also looking to Android and Windows Phone to use the new chips....

Last month, there were rumors claiming Apple planned to use the Liquidmetal amorphous metal alloys it obtained the rights to in 2010 for an upcoming iPhone. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg announced on the company’s earnings call today that Instagram’s Snapchat Stories competitor now has 300 million daily active users. WhatsApp’s version of the feature, called ‘Status,’ has also now has 300 million daily active users, according to Zuckerberg. As noted by TechCrunch, that number is nearly twice the size of Snapchat… Instagram announced in mid-June that Instagram Stories had 250 million daily users, so that’s a jump of 50 million users in less than 5 months....

Cybersecurity company Wandera found that some 23 iOS file-conversion apps used by three million people fail to use encryption, potentially putting the documents at risk. All the apps in question were created by a single developer, Cometdocs, but Wandera says that the discovery raises a broader security issue… Cometdocs makes apps that convert documents between different file formats. For example, from Word to PDF, or from PDF to Powerpoint. The problem is that the conversion itself takes place on a Cometdocs server, and both the original and converted documents are sent without any form of encryption....
Apple is opening up a new suite of offices inside Israel this week, with CEO Tim Cook reportedly visiting Israel in part to inaugurate the new workspace. Recent reports have indicated that the offices will hold approximately 800 employees across 180,000 square feet of space.
